At its Sept. 28 meeting, the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities recognized outstanding community partnership and staff leadership that reflect its mission of supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families. The Board presented a Special Recognition Award to the West Toledo branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. The award specifically recognized Branch Manager Ryan Rigaux and custodian Janet Roane for their commitment to hosting the weekly Special Olympics Young Athletes Playgroup. Their collaboration has helped create an inclusive, welcoming space where children can build skills, confidence, and friendships through play.
The Board also celebrated Angelique Lewis and Quidrela Lewis, Service and Support Specialists, who were named September 2026 Staff Persons of the Month for their extraordinary response to a family crisis. Following the unexpected loss of a parent, the pair worked tirelessly to coordinate services, secure supports, and help ensure the safety and well-being of three individuals served by the Board. Their compassion, professionalism, and dedication exemplify the impact Lucas DD staff and community partners make every day in helping people thrive through life’s challenges.
