Common Questions

What is the Portable Changing Station?

It’s a specialized mobile unit designed to assist with personal care needs for people with disabilities, providing a safe, respectful and clean space.

Why should an event include this unit?

Including the unit can significantly improve the experience for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers by providing the facilities they need, helping to ensure everyone feels welcome and accommodated.

Can it be used for young children as well?

Yes! While it’s built to support adults, it’s perfectly suitable for children who need a safe space for hygiene or changing. The table includes side rails for extra safety.

Does the unit need to be placed in a high-traffic area?

Not necessarily. To maintain privacy and dignity, the unit can be placed in a quieter location. It just needs to be accessible and near power (and water, if needed).

Is there a fee to reserve it?

No. The Portable Changing Station is free for approved events in Lucas County and nearby areas.

Will there be staff inside the unit during the event?

Not typically. Event hosts manage cleaning and basic oversight.

What if someone forgets their sling (for the lift) or hygiene supplies?

Caregivers should bring their own slings and hygiene supplies. However, backup items may be available—contact information will be posted inside the unit in case assistance is needed.
