May 2026 Lucas DD Board Special Recognition Awards

At is May 18, 2026 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities recognized a retirement of a longtime secretary, named the Staff Person of the Month, and gave special recognition to a local provider's side-by-side training for staff and individuals served.

Retirement: Richard Maneval. Richard started at the Board in February 1995 as a Substitute Bus Monitor, later becoming a Vehicle Operator in the Transportation Department. In April of 1997, Richard assumed secretarial duties in Adult Services. He was joined at the meeting by his wife and son. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Staff Person of the Month: Sally Orkowski. Since joining the Major Unusual Incident Unit as a Quality Assurance Technician last year, Sally has consistently demonstrated dedication, growth, and a sincere commitment to strengthening processes and supporting the team. She was recognized at the meeting by MUI Coordinator David Vaughan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Special Recognition: Jill Harrington of Assured Health Services. Jill has played a critical role in the development and success of the Side-by-Side Training program. She provided valuable insight based on her experience seeing the program run elsewhere, while also giving Lucas DD the flexibility to develop the Side-by-Side trainings thoughtfully and intentionally. Her support allowed the program to grow at a pace that met the needs of both Lucas DD and Assured Health, ensuring the program remained mutually meaningful and sustainable. 

Jill was joined by her daughter, Assured Health colleague Jen Krach, and Lucas DD Provider Support Director Sarah Diesch.
