As part of Lucas DD's Professional Training Series, this "Dining With Dignity" equips I/DD professionals with the knowledge and skills to provide respectful, safe, trauma-informed, and person-centered mealtime support. Participants will learn how to build trust and foster positive interpersonal relationships, practice cultural competency, and communicate effectively during dining. The session emphasizes a person-centered philosophy, planning, and practice, including implementing individual service plans and applying empathy-based care. We’ll also cover strategies for promoting independence, honoring preferences, and using adaptive tools and techniques to ensure dignity and safety. In addition, practical tips on basic meal preparation will be provided to help staff build confidence in these essential skills. This training aligns with Ohio DODD annual training requirements under the category "Components of Quality Care." To register, please e-mail Candice Landrum at clandrum@lucasdd.org.
