Lucas DD Family & Advocate Forum on Tuesday

Join Lucas DD Superintendent Michele Myerholtz and other department directors for our quarterly Family & Advocate Forum from 9:30 - 11 a.m. on June 11. Learn more about DODD legislative updates and waiver changes taking place on July 1 as well as local happenings at the Board. The Lucas DD Family & Advocate Forum is open to individuals served, their families, providers, and any other advocates in the I/DD system to meet and have conversations with Board leadership. Four Early Intervention Summer Playgroups left!

Lucas DD's Early Intervention team is pre-registering families for their inclusive Summer Playgroups, which will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on:

 

Playgroups are ideal for those up to 6 years old, but ALL ages and abilities are welcome to attend. Register and check-in with staff upon arrival for a chance to win fun prizes!

 

SALUTE Meeting on Monday

SALUTE, a self-advocacy group for those served by the Lucas DD, will meet 5:30 p.m. on June 10 at 1155 Larc Lane (Door O). Guest speaker this month will be Lt. Gina Shubeta of the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department.

 

Common Ground Social Group (18+) June 11

Lucas DD's Common Ground and Friend Network is for people 18+ to gather together and build lasting, sustainable friendships and connections. The next meeting is a summer picnic on Tuesday, June 11 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at our Larc Lane campus Training Center! Questions? Wealth & Wisdom June 26

This free class is presented by Lucas DD as part of our Wealth and Wisdom series. The topic at 6 p.m. on June 26 is SSDI and will be virtual only. Board Will Be Closed for Juneteeth

Lucas County Special Olympics Summer Football Camp Registration

LCSO is partnering with Ottawa Hills High School football team for two camps offered in July! The two dates are July 9 and July 11, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Ottawa Hills High School. You will be assigned to a day once registration has been filled. Click the headline to register. Registration is required as space is limited!

 

Special Olympics Newsletter is out

Did you hear that Summer Sports registration is now open? If you want to play softball, cheer, or the walking group, this is your chance to sign up! Deadline to sign up for summer sports is June 21 at 4:30 p.m.

 

LCSO Golf Scramble Registration is open!

Grab your team, your golf clubs, and get ready for some fun that directly benefits Lucas County Special Olympics! The 5th annual golf scramble is on July 27 (shot gun start at 8 a.m.). Business sponsorship opportunities are also available.

 

SALUTE Seeks Artists for Disability Pride Event in July

In conjunction with the SALUTE Storytellers event, SALUTE is looking for artists with disabilities who would like to display and tell stories about their art. This event will be on Saturday, July 13. Artists cannot sell their items on site but can provide their contact information if people are interested in purchasing later. Questions? Practically Golf is coming up

Join The Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio on June 21-22 for a competitive miniature golf fundraiser! There are 18 mini golf holes designed and custom built by area sponsors in the streets of Downtown Toledo outside of The Blarney Irish Pub Toledo. All proceeds go towards supporting community programs for people with epilepsy. Click here for full details.

 

Stay Connected with other Special Olympics Athletes

Special Olympics Ohio has partnered with We Thrive Together Ohio so that athletes can stay connected when they're not training or competing. Athletes are invited to participate in a wide range of free virtual events including games, workouts, life skills trainings, and social events. There is something for everyone! Wood County Board of DD Community Festival this evening

Don't miss out on an evening of pure FUN! Join Wood County Board of DD from 5 - 8 p.m. on June 7 for an evening packed with family fun on their campus! Enjoy an array of kid-friendly, inclusive activities, LIVE music, artisan vendors, and food trucks! This event is FREE and open to the public. 

 

Storybook Festival is tomorrow

The East Toledo Family Center is hosting its annual Storybook Festival at Waite High School from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on June 8. Characters from Super Why, Princess Presto, Alpha Pig will be there! There will also be Bounce Houses, Agency Resources, Face Painting, and literacy activities! This is a free event for all families. To learn more, check out www.etfc.org or call 419-691-1429.

 

Wood County Board of DD Football Clinic with BGSU

All individuals ages 8 and up served by ANY Ohio Board of DD are invited to join current BGSU football players, coaches, and support staff for a fun afternoon learning all about football! Registration by Sunday, June 9 is required (event is June 18 from 3:30 - 5 p.m.). Click here to register.

 

Sensory-Friendly Virtual Dinosaurs-Themed Program on June 11

Join The Henry Ford Museum virtually from 6 - 7:15 p.m. on June 11 as they present a free program designed for individuals with autism spectrum disorder or sensory processing disorder and their family members or caregivers. June's program is themed around dinosaurs. They will have a dinosaur-themed movement activity, story, and craft, as well as a presentation on "5 Dinosaur Families" by Ashley Hall, Outreach Program Manager at the Museum of the Rockies in Montana. Registration required. The program will be held virtually via Zoom and instructions to join as well as a visual schedule will be sent out to all registered participants before the program. 

 

Last Chance to Register for DODD's FAC & DC Joint Meeting!

Family Advisory Council (FAC) and Disability Connect (DC) meetings take place regularly and are an opportunity for people with disabilities and family members to connect directly with the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. Presentations with valuable information and updates will be provided from different divisions and DODD leadership. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 12, participants will engage in activities to provide feedback and cultivate a community of connections. Space is limited! Sunshine Communities 75th Birthday Celebration

Join Sunshine Communities from 6 - 8 p.m. on June 14 for a free, public concert at the celebration of their 75th birthday. The Skittle Bots will take us through the decades with music, fun, and dancing. There will be food trucks and, of course, birthday cake.

Lucas DD Adult Day Program Grants

The next cycle of the 2024 Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities Adult Day Grant application process ends on July 31! 

Funding is capped at $50,000 for each grant cycle, not to exceed $10,000 per award. Awarded funds will be distributed directly from the Lucas County DD ADA Grant Fund.

The goal of the grants is to help fund technologies and/or programs that expand and/or enhance Adult Day and/or Employment services, promote community integration and community employment, and/or helps people achieve their goals related to Adult Day/Employment services & supports.

As a certified provider of DD services, navigating the system can be confusing and downright overwhelming at times. Having problems renewing your provider certification? Not sure who is your assigned liaison? Can’t find new clients? Need help interpreting the results of a BCII check? Piper's Key: Books for children with DD

Piper's Key is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity that gifts inclusive books to children with disabilities that represent their unique selves in a positive light. For so many children with disabilities, the primary focus is on their actual diagnosis and treatment/management plan. Often times, these plans may not include positive self-image through representation. Piper's Key is unlocking representation through literacy for every child

 

 

Special Olympics Ohio needs volunteers for State Games

The 2024 Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games will kick off June 28 at Ohio State University in Columbus. They have a tremendous need for volunteers to make this event amazing for the 2,500+ athletes competing. View opportunities and sign up here:
