Friday Update:

1. Registration for Future is Now Events Available

October 6, 2021, 1 - 2:30 PM or 5:30 - 7 PM

Planning for a good life for your loved one is a journey. Carolyn Wheeler, who has spent too many hours to count around kitchen tables assisting families to plan for the future, will highlight five areas to figure out as families plan as well as tools that may be useful along the way. Also hear from family members, including siblings, who know the “future is now” and have taken big and small steps to plan for a good life for their loved ones.

2. Register for Special Olympics winter activities

Winter sports this year include swimming, basketball, powerlifting and pep. The deadline to register is October 4.  Take this link for the registration form.

3. Looking for a new career?  The Board has several open positions.

Current open positions with the Board are listed on our website.  In addition to finding links to apply online there is also a list of benefits. Open positions include Service and Support Specialist, Assistant Director of Service and Support, Early Intervention Developmental Specialist, Public Information Manager, Project Management Coordinator, Speech and Language Pathologist, Data Analyst, and Service and Support Specialist Substitute.

4. Toledo Buddy Walk is October 3

The 20thAnnual Toledo Buddy Walk is Sunday, October 3rd at the University of Toledo on Sunday, October 3 from 12 pm to 4 pm.

It’s not too late to register or donate to this year’s Buddy Walk.  Invite your friends and family to partake in all the festivities.

5. Alzheimers' Walk is October 9

The 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer's is Saturday, October 9. Walk with the Alzheimer's Association, walk in your neighborhood, or join virtually.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Promenade Park | 400 Water St., in downtown Toledo.

6. TARTA Next

TARTA is asking its community to get involved and make a change by completing a comprehensive survey as part of TARTA Next. By using comments from the public, employees, and an advisory committee, TARTA plans to redesign itself to make traveling on public transit easier and faster.

Residents can find out more about TARTA Next and the changes it will bring during:

  • A free community meeting at the Main Branch of the Toledo Public Library, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, from 5-6:30 p.m.
  • A free virtual community meeting on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, details coming soon to www.tartanext.com

TARTA Next will examine existing routes, ridership, and performance on all modes of transport, and will evaluate options for improvements in the context of projected available funding. Service improvements will be determined by next spring, with implementation set for the fall or winter of 2022.
