Friday Update:

1.  Hearing scheduled on the Board's 2021 Action Plan

As part of Superintendent Lori Mariucci's scheduled Family & Advocate Forum on Tuesday, November 10, there will be a public hearing on the Board's 2021 draft Action Plan. the forum will begin at 9:30 virtually. That means it will be on Zoom.  The log in information will be included in the Friday Update next week and also on the Board's website www.lucasdd.org

2.  Board of DD approves operating calendar for 2021

The Board's 2021 operating calendar identifies when Board facilities will be operational in the coming calendar year.  Download the calendar.

3.  Employment opportunities

For information on open positions with the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, follow this link.

TLC  Transit is hiring drivers. They will train.

iConnect, a division of iDance is seeking Direct Support Professionals.

4.  New Facebook group launches  for discussion of developmental disabilities issues

Facebook A new group on Facebook has started where families and professionals can discuss issues, concerns, and questions about dd services. Find the new group and join at https://www.facebook.com/groups/dddiscussion/

5.  Can you offer a ride, or do you need a ride on Election Day?

A call is out for people interested in driving voters to the polls this year. If you are looking to help on Election Day or early vote please send an email to gotvohio@gmail.com or call 419 VOTE NOW (419-868-3669).  Also use this contact information if you or someone you know needs a ride please.

6.  An interview with a Special Olympian

Brad Harris is a young man that has been participating in many of our virtual Special Olympic activities and also started his own virtual exercise class for his friends and family. Kelley Watson offers this interview with Brad.

7.  Professionals in the DD community receive "20 Under 40" awards

Two professionals in the local DD community have been recognized with "20 Under 40" awards recognizing their exceptional contributions to the community.

8.  Podcast discusses the importance of Travel Training

The newest episode in the "Talk from the Board" podcast series features guest Michele Shepler, Community Travel Trainer, discussing the importance of travel training and itgs impact on the inclusion, addressing the Board's Mission, and quality of life.  Listen to the podcast.

9.  Sensory-friendly shopping event scheduled

For the fourth year in a row, Bittersweet and two area Target stores are teaming up to offer a sensory friendly holiday shopping opportunity for local individuals with autism and their families.

On Wednesday, November 18th, the Target store in Rossford (9666 Old US 20, Rossford, OH 43460) and the Target store at Spring Meadows (1465 E Mall Dr., Holland, OH 43528) will open one hour early to provide a sensory friendly shopping experience for individuals with autism. From 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, the lights will be dimmed, the music turned off, and foot traffic limited.

Bittersweet’s Executive Director Dustin Watkins says, “We are thrilled to partner with Target for the fourth year in a row to offer this sensory friendly holiday experience."
