1. Accomplishments of self-advocates reflected in video
A new video reflects the long list of activities and accomplishments of SALUTE, the self-advocacy group sponsored by the Lucas County Board of DD. The list is long and very impressive. Watch the video.
2. Mary Beth Olender retires
Mary Beth Olender, who has supported the SALUTE self-advocates and Special Olympics athletes, is retiring. The self-advocates and her colleagues organized a drive-by tribute. Her commitment to the Board Mission Statement, work ethic, and support for individuals with developmental disabilities are unquestioned. We will miss her.
3. IRS extends deadline to ensure people with children receive $500 economic impact payments
The IRS has extended its deadline to September 30, 2020, for people to provide information to the IRS using its Non-Filer Tool
People should do this if they:
- receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability benefits, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments;
- did not file a 2019 or 2018 tax return;
- have a qualifying child under age 17; and
- did not already enter information in the IRS’ Non-Filer Tool for themselves and at least one child.

Disability Rights Ohio has published two documents that review an individual’s rights in the hospital and to health care.

- Hospital visitor polices and your rights to reasonable accommodations

At the August Board meeting, John Priest and Kim Krieger were honored as the Staff Persons of the Month. This is a well-deserved recognition for both. Click on their names to read the citations presented at the Board meeting.
