1. Director Davis discusses Strategic Plan

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) has released it's Strategic Plan. Follow this link to view a short video in which Director Jeff Davis discusses the plan.

2.   Job postings

For information on open positions with the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, follow this link.  Current postings include: Service& Support Specialist, Recreation Specialist, Business Manager, and Speech/Language Pathologist.

3.   JFS publishes guide to available services

Follow this link for updated information on the services provided by Lucas County Job & Family Services. It covers the What, Where, When and How questions that many of our clients need to know. While their building remains closed to the public, JFS is still operational. Services can be accessed online and by phone.

4.   Upcoming events from the Family Network

The Ohio Family Network is hosting live conversations for people with developmental disabilities and their families to build connections and share stories. Find all the events here.

5.    IRS extends deadline to ensure people with children receive $500 economic impact payments

The IRS has extended its deadline to September 30, 2020, for people to provide information to the IRS using its Non-Filer Tool

People should do this if they:

  • receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability benefits, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments;
  • did not file a 2019 or 2018 tax return;
  • have a qualifying child under age 17; and
  • did not already enter information in the IRS’ Non-Filer Tool for themselves and at least one child.

6.  Ability Center taking needs survey

Throughout its 100 years - The Ability Center has adapted programs to best fit the current needs of the disability community. Now, its asking  you to share what issues impact you the most.

  • Public Access

7.  August 24 Board of DD meeting will be virtual

The August 24 regularly scheduled Board of DD meeting will again be virtual, held via Zoom.  The agenda and log-in details will be posted on the Board's website.

8.  Softball players practice their skills

There may not be competitive play, but members of the Lucas County Special Olympics softball team, none-the-less, are practicing their skills. Hats off for coach Amber Harmon.

9.   Parents to share their experiences with virtual learning

The next webinar from the Ability Center is a Parent Advocate Roundtable.    Local parents will share  their experiences with virtual learning and the strategies their families have implemented to be successful with virtual/in person/hybrid school, and tips for advocating for your child's educational experience.  The webinar will be August 27 at 10:00.

10.  Ability Center program provides assistive technology for youth and adults

The Tech for REC Program  from the Ability Center provides assistive technology, switch adapted toys, and leisure items are available for youth and adults with disabilities.
