Friday Update:

1. June Board meeting will be via Zoom

The June 22 Board meeting will be conducted via Zoom as we continue to comply with social distancing guidelines. The computer log-in information... and telephone connection... as well as the meeting agenda... will be published Monday afternoon on the Board's website.

2. Board of DD seeks family input on communication

The Lucas County Board of DD is asking for your input about communication strategies. How do you like to receive information? Maybe it's by email or maybe in person at open meetings. If you have a concern, do you know whom at the Board to contact? To help the Board understand these and other issues dealing with our communication with families and advocates we are asking you to complete an online survey. Please click here to take the survey.  It will only take a few minutes.

3. Virtual presentation scheduled on Special Needs Trusts

NAMI is conducting a special virtual presentation on Special Needs Trusts on June 25th. Click here for more information and the log-in information.

4. Understanding the Role of the Guardian and Consent Now Live

This training defines guardianship, explains what it means to provide consent, and shows how providers can support the people they serve or their guardians when providing consent. It is now available on DODD MyLearning and one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) unit is available.

5. On the road to independence

Mowing Specialized Support Consultant John Priest tells us about Justin Kohlhofer who is working to develop employable skills, as well as focusing on areas of safety and responsibility. Risor Homes, Justin’s HPC Provider, has stepped up and helped to provided Justin with the necessary equipment.   Risor Homes also supplied the travel training needed for Justin to walk to his favorite carryout on his own.

6. Board takes a leadership role with Human Trafficking Coalition

Our latest podcast interview explores why the Lucas County Board of DD has taken a leadership position in the fight against human trafficking. Pat Stephens and Jane Meyer give us the background and discuss how we can work to fight this insidious crime. Click here to listen.

7. Department of DD to host transformation summit

Registration is still open for the 2020 Virtual Transformation Summit, a free opportunity to explore what innovation and resiliency may look like in a post-COVID world.   Attendees will discuss obstacles and explore potential solutions, walking away with community-based action items. Learn more.

8. FANS salutes First Unitarian Church

First Christian Church The First Christian Church is a FANS Volunteer church that has donated items for Christmas, FANS requests , and food. Most recently they have donated several time to persons with disabilities in need of food.
