1. Free training will discuss Dual Diagnosis
Dual Diagnosis: Mental Health and Intellectual Developmental Disabilities is the title of a training being presented as a collaboration of the Northwest Ohio Development Center, Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Lucas County and Coordinating Center of Excellence. The presentation will be January 29th at 9:00 and again at 1:00 with Dr. Julie Gentile. There is no charge, but registration is requested. 2. Ability Center marks 100th anniversary
In celebration of its 100th birthday, The Ability Center is announces new community partnerships and unveiling a new logo.
Local partnerships beginning in 2020 will cultivate community engagement to achieve the Ability Center’s goal of making the Toledo region the most disability-friendly community in the country. Entering its centennial year, the Ability Center is unveiling a new logo. A visual nod to the past, the new logo represents a new take on the iconic gold star.
3. Shooting with the Stars matches Special Olympics athletes with celebrities
Celebrities from the greater Toledo area will be joining athletes from Lucas County Special Olympics in what promises to be one of the most fun basketball games of the year, Shooting with the Stars, sponsored by the Taylor Automotive Family. Tipoff will be Sunday, March 22, 2:00 p.m., at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center on the Lourdes University campus.
This will be a “unified” match, which means athletes from Special Olympics will be teamed with players who do not have disabilities.
Among the celebrities slated to appear are Ohio State Senators Teresa Fedor and Theresa Gavarone, sportscasters Justin Feldcamp and Jay Hannah, USA National Miss Toledo Mindy Sperry, WBC Super-Featherweight Champ Albert Bell, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, radio personality Denny Schaffer, Muddy, and Muddonna.
Admission is $2 or a donation at the door. All proceeds will benefit Lucas County Special Olympics.
