The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities is pleased to announce that Karen Kerr has joined its Board of Directors.

Mrs. Kerr, of Swanton, was appointed by the Board of Lucas County Commissioners. She is an active community volunteer, who serves on the Ohio Developmental Disability Advocacy and Awareness Day Steering Committee, the Sunshine Communities Foundation Board, and Lucas DD’s Human Rights Committee.

“I am so excited to serve on the County Board,” Mrs. Kerr said. “I spent 2 terms on the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council and I am looking forward to sharing what I learned about state and federal issues and programs with our community. I have an adult son with a chromosome disorder and have learned to advocate for all people with developmental and intellectual disabilities while navigating systems and services.”

Lucas DD’s Board of Directors is composed of 7 volunteer members, 2 of whom are appointed by the probate judge. Lucas County Commissioners appoint the other 5 members. Board members serve a 4-year term and are eligible to be reappointed twice for a maximum of 12 years of service.

Board meetings are open to the public and held on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Lucas DD’s South Toledo headquarters. The next meeting is Jan. 27.
