Lucas DD is the host site for a unique training opportunity for local law enforcement aimed at increasing awareness and safety when interacting with people with Developmental Disabilities.
The two courses, “Encounters with People with Developmental Disabilities” and “Crisis Mitigation De-escalation,” meet the 2024 Continued Professional Training (CPT) Mandated Topics, and are the only ones of their kind approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).

The course instructors come from the Ohio Assocation of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities and have more than 35 years of combined experience in law enforcement, and 75 years in the DD system. This invaluable real-world perspective enriches the curriculum and ensures its practicality and relevance!
Both courses are scheduled for Thursday, June 20, at Lucas DD’s South Toledo campus. The Board will waive the registration fee for any law enforcement officers anywhere.
