Encounters with People with I/DD Training Course

In this free 4-hour interactive course, participants will gain an understanding of the characteristics of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and how this relates to encounters with officers.  They will also learn tactical steps to respond to an individual with I/DD in crisis to improve communication and increase safety for all parties involved.

The event is open to law enforcement, Service & Support Specialists, and Investigative Agents.

One instructor/course creator worked in a dual capacity between the sheriff’s department and a county board of DD for 9 years, bringing a real-world perspective from both sides to the course. You will not find another course like this one!

  • InstructorsDiane Dudziak, MS, Law Enforcement & Intellectual Developmental Disability Specialist, Joe Storad, OACB First Responder Liaison, and William Jones, LSW, OACB Director of Health, Safety and Wellness.
