June 2022
With historic staffing shortages, the Substitute Service and Support Specialists have really stepped in and provided continuity of care for individuals without an SSA.
We would like to recognize three outstanding Sub SSAs – Sarah Hawkins, Debi Tyree, and Melinda Watson – as the June 2022 Staff Persons of the Month. They step in when SSAs are off, on leave, leave the Board, or change positions. Oftentimes when Sarah, Debi, and Melinda start working with an individual, they are assisting to resolve challenges having no history of working with that person. But they put those challenges aside and stay focused on serving the individual by helping ensure their needs are met.
Sarah is a calming presence. She is level headed in always working to help the individuals she serves get what they need to improve their quality of life. Her friendly demeanor and excellent follow through help her establish trust and relationships with the individuals she works with even if she is only covering a case for a short period. Sarah is willing to ask the difficult questions to try and help resolve concerns or unmet needs and does her work in a very professional manner. She is also very supportive of her co-workers and has been a wonderful asset to the SSA Department.
Because of her “can-do” attitude, Debi thrives in a busy environment, no matter how challenging the situation might be. Her warm demeanor helps her to easily connect with others, which is so crucial with an always-changing caseload. Debi regularly goes above and beyond for the individuals and families on her caseload. For example, she once delivered groceries she personally purchased on her own time when an individual was not yet receiving food stamps. Debi is a selfless and devoted worker, and the passion she has for the individuals we serve is apparent every single day.
Melinda is a pleasure to work with. She always has an easygoing approach that helps her easily connect with clients and peers alike. Melinda can always be counted on for a laugh to brighten up your day. She takes pride in a job well done and consistently meets timelines no matter how short the turnaround. Melinda has already worked with many challenging cases and faces all of the them the same way, in a positive and professional manner.
These three have been a huge asset to their colleagues and, more importantly, their clients. We at the Board thank you, Sarah, Debi, and Melinda, for all of your hard work. The Board is honored to recognize you three as the June 2022 Staff Persons of the Month.
